Program Overview

Program Description

The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (Navy/Marine ROTC) program is a military training program for those who desire to serve in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps as a Commissioned Officer. Students may participate in Navy/Marine ROTC courses without any obligation to join the military. If students wish to agree to a period of military service, they may receive certain ROTC scholarships or complete advanced coursework. Navy/Marine ROTC courses will introduce you to naval science and critical thinking through training in seapower, maritime affairs, leadership, management, and ethics. Depending on the emphasis area chosen -Navy or Marine Corps- students take additional courses in naval ship systems and weapons or amphibious warfare. Regardless of your emphasis area or your desire to pursue military service, the Navy/Marine ROTC program courses will give you leadership skills and experience that can be used in a variety of careers.

Academic and Career Opportunities

After graduating with your bachelor’s degree and completing the Navy/Marine ROTC program, you can go on to serve in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps as a Commissioned Officer in a number of fields. Navy Officers may choose to specialize in surface warfare, submarine, explosives, or become pilots or aviators. Marine Corps Officers can assume roles in ground or aviation combat or become pilots. If you do not wish to serve in the military, the leadership and critical thinking skills gained from Navy/Marine ROTC are still a great complement to any undergraduate degree pursued because all career fields require strong leaders and decision-makers.
