Program Overview
Occupational Safety and Health
Program Description
The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) minor teaches students the principles of a "safe" workplace and how to apply them to any working environment. OSH is the field of workplace accidents, illnesses, and injury prevention, with courses in areas like risk assessment and management, hazard recognition, health exposure, ergonomics and human factors, and injury prevention. The OSH minor can be paired with a variety of majors as a valuable asset to a resume.
Academic and Career Opportunities
Students can get involved on campus by joining the College of Health Student Council or completing a research project through the Office for Undergraduate Research. They can also complete an internship to put their workplace safety skills to the test. In conjunction with a major, the OSH minor will open the door to jobs in workplace safety in nearly any industry; positions in policy making or management are also possible. With additional education at the graduate level, students may pursue careers as occupational therapists, managers, and lawyers.
