Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Women's Health

The 15-credit certificate is designed to equip the student with an interdisciplinary perspective on women’s health and well-being. Our intent is to create an academy of practitioners well-versed in evidence-based approaches to the care of women as individuals as well as practitioners who understand primary care access, community interventions, and health policies on local, national, and global levels pertaining to women.

This certificate is offered in connection with the Center of Excellence in Women’s Health through the University of Utah Health, an interdisciplinary group focused on enhancing overall health and wellness for women.

Courses

• IGCWH Declaration of Intent
• The Issues in Women’s Health course is the key required course for the certificate.
• Students then take at least one course from each of the certificate’s three domains:
  • Domain I: Individual Experiences of Disease, Wellness, Maturation, and Growth
  • Domain II: Women’s Roles, Responsibilities, Behaviors, and Beliefs; and Economics
  • Domain III: Politics, and Women’s Health
• Each domain has several pre-approved courses from departments across the university, thus allowing students to tailor their coursework to their specific women’s health issue interests.
• Course options for each domain can be found on the University General Catalog.
• Please note that course offerings vary by semester and not all credit hours taken outside of the College of Social Work will count toward MSW degree requirements even if they count for the Graduate Certificate requirements.
• Since this is an interdisciplinary certificate, students are required to take at least one course outside of their discipline.

Eligibility

• Students outside of the College of Social Work as well as non-matriculated students are welcome to complete this certificate.
• An application for admission to this graduate certificate must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university
  • An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
