B.S. in Commerce

From day one, you’ll work closely with your classmates to tackle real-world problems and create usable solutions for top corporate executives. With guidance from industry-leading faculty, you may be helping a global company explore expansion into the middle-of-market plane engine sector, studying overseas markets in Beijing, or collaborating with a national sports league to get more fans to games.

Foundational Core

The Foundational Core (15 credits) is designed to ensure that all McIntire students build a strong base of analytical, communication, and decision-making skills at the start of their Commerce education. Integrating key business fundamentals in accounting, finance, data analysis, communication, and technology, this sequenced, skills-building progression across the second year ensures that every student is well-prepared for the integrated, team-based consulting projects in their third year.

Integrated Core Experience

This immersive curriculum during your third year combines all the core disciplines for a wide-ranging, hands-on approach to business education. Taught by a dedicated faculty team, small student groups collaborate to solve real-world business problems that they present to corporate sponsor executives.

Concentrations

By the spring of your third year, you’ll have the broad-based liberal arts foundation and applied business knowledge that will help you choose your concentration or functional area of study. You’ll concentrate on one or two of these areas to hone your skill set and fine-tune your professional goals.

Tracks

In addition to a concentration, you’ll have the option to choose up to two of six tracks—an area of specialty that spans across several disciplines or delves more deeply into a concentration—to prepare you for the workplace. These tracks allow you to further specialize in an area that augments Integrated Core Curriculum (ICE) and concentration coursework.
