M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) offers a Master of Science (M.S.) program designed to challenge students' capabilities, introduce cutting-edge innovations, and foster an appreciation for the depth and history of the discipline.

M.S. Program Overview

The curriculum is designed with three core goals:

• Broad Knowledge: Ensure all graduates have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
• Specialized Expertise: Provide deep knowledge within one of the department's three primary disciplines.
• Flexibility for Interdisciplinary Study: Support diverse interests and emerging areas within MAE.

Research and coursework span scales from macro to nano, and range from highly theoretical to applied, utilizing state-of-the-art analytical, computational, and experimental tools.

Course Structure

Graduate courses are organized into three categories:

• Analytical Mathematics
• Numerical Methods
• Topical Areas

With advisor and departmental approval, students select core courses from each category to build a strong academic foundation.

M.S. Requirements

Students entering the M.S. program must complete:

• 24 credit hours of coursework
  • 12 credit hours of core courses
  • 2 semesters of MAE Research Seminar
