Program Overview
Emergency Medicine Residency Program
The next generation of Emergency Medicine leaders emerge from our residency program with the skills, clinical knowledge, and compassion to provide the highest quality care for patients.
Mission, Vision and Core Values
Mission
The Emory Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Program actively works to recruit, develop, and train the next generation of diverse Emergency Medicine leaders with the skills and expertise to provide outstanding patient care, engage in cutting edge research, seek opportunities for service and advocacy, and invest in personal and professional wellness and resiliency techniques.
Vision
Emory EM will be the leading academic Emergency Medicine program in transforming health and healing, through education, discovery, prevention, and care. To remain ethically engaged and a diverse community, whose members work collaboratively for positive transformation.
Our Core Values
The residency program believes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion of its residency classes while embracing excellence in our four pillars: Education, Wellness/Resiliency, Research, and Service/Advocacy.
Program History
Due to the pioneering efforts of Dr. John Stone, our program accepted the first group of residents in 1974. Our residency program has grown to more than 60 residents who come from diverse backgrounds and regions of the world. They share a uniformly high caliber of achievement and a strong commitment to our specialty. Residents are exposed to diverse internationally recognized faculty and numerous Emergency Medicine Fellowships. The unique opportunities afforded by an elite institute of higher learning coupled with an affiliation with an inner-city county hospital make this program a stand out. Furthermore, Emory EM's affiliations with the CDC, Rollins School of Public Health, and Grady EMS/affiliates round out an excellent training ground for new physicians.
Meet Our Residents
- Danielle Andrews, MD Class of 2025
- "For years, I have loved the Emory EM program because of its dedication to serving the most vulnerable and disenfranchised patients while producing incredible champions working towards improving health equity. I knew that wherever I trained had to prioritize incorporating a patient's social determinants of health into their medical care. Emory EM does this in spades, especially at Grady! Besides this program's passion for its patients with fantastic training, Atlanta is DOPE! The diversity of people, the culture, the vibes, it's all here! I can't think of a more perfect place for me to train in such a fun city with the best people!"
