Program Overview
The Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship is a 1-year ACGME-accredited program that offers in-depth training in gynecological surgical pathology. The program combines advanced training in diagnostic gynecologic pathology with clinical research and teaching opportunities.
Description
The program provides an excellent in-depth training in medical knowledge, patient care skills, and expertise applicable to gynecologic pathology. Fellows participate in collaborative research projects with other departments and present cases at various clinicopathological conferences, offering opportunities for teaching and collaboration with clinical colleagues.
Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have completed at least two years of AP or three years of AP/CP residency and have a USMLE Step 3 certification. They must also have a Georgia Medical Licensure.
Positions
There is 1 ACGME-accredited position available per academic year.

- Copy of USMLE Results (Step 1, Step 2CS, Step 2CK, and Step 3)
- Copy of ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)
Important Visa Information
Emory SOM does not support the $100,000 fee under the new federal orders for new H-1B visa petitions. Applicants must be visa-eligible (e.g., J1 visa-eligible, will enter residency on F1/OPT, hold a valid H-1B visa not associated with the $100,000 fee, or have other forms of valid work authorization) if they match at Emory.

Program Structure
The program includes:
- Advanced training in diagnostic gynecologic pathology
- Clinical research and teaching opportunities
- Collaborative research projects with other departments
- Presentation of cases at clinicopathological conferences
- Two months of elective rotation in specialties related to gynecologic oncology and reproductive medicine
Elective Rotation
The elective rotation offers additional training in specialties related to gynecologic oncology and reproductive medicine, including:
- Placental pathology
- Gynecologic cytology
- Clinical observerships in gynecologic oncology (surgery, outpatient clinic, and radiation oncology)
- Within the department of reproductive endocrinology and infertility
Training Environment
The program is based at Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown, which combined accession close to 7,000 gynecologic surgical specimens, 12,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, between 100-130 gynecologic expert consultation cases, and 100 intraoperative consultations in gynecologic surgeries per year. This provides an excellent in-depth training in medical knowledge, patient care skills, and expertise applicable to gynecologic pathology.
