Program Overview
Program Details
Introduction
The University of Copenhagen offers a comprehensive program in Tooth Morphology, which is a mandatory course for students in the Bachelor's program in Odontology.
Course Description
The course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of tooth morphology, including the principles of macromorphology and the morphology of temporary and permanent teeth. Students will learn to identify and describe the morphology of human teeth, including dental macrostructures and macromorphological variables.
Learning Objectives
After completing the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Explain the morphology of temporary and permanent teeth systematically
- Describe the significance of macromorphological variables in relation to clinical dental practice
- Explain dental population studies and the structural and biological conditions that lead to tooth pain
- Identify human teeth and dental macrostructures, and read macromorphological variables on teeth
- Determine the age of a young individual based on the mineralization stage and/or eruption of teeth
- Present the clinical application of knowledge about the structures of the mouth and teeth
Competence
Students will be able to transfer the knowledge and skills acquired in this course to later clinical courses in the dental program, laying the foundation for clinical skills and competencies.
Formal Requirements
There are no formal requirements for enrollment in this course.
Teaching Methods
The course consists of lectures, dialogue-based group teaching, and one clinical exercise.
Workload
The estimated workload for the course is:

Assessment Criteria
To achieve a grade of 12, students must demonstrate:
- Systematic knowledge of tooth morphology
- Ability to explain the significance of macromorphological variables in relation to clinical dental practice
- Ability to identify human teeth and dental macrostructures, and read macromorphological variables on teeth
- Ability to determine the age of a young individual based on the mineralization stage and/or eruption of teeth
- Ability to present the clinical application of knowledge about the structures of the mouth and teeth
