Program Description
The program, titled "Klinisk oral anatomi og hygiejne" (Clinical Oral Anatomy and Hygiene), is a mandatory course for students in the Bachelor's program in Odontology, 3rd semester. The course aims to introduce students to oral structures and dental plaque, enabling them to recognize normal structures in the mouth through inspection and palpation.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
- Explain the clinical significance of knowledge about anatomical structures and normal variations in the mouth
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between anatomical structures in the mouth and their function
- Describe general infection control procedures to prevent the spread of infection in a dental clinic
- Identify and apply correct anatomical and Latin terminology to describe and name anatomical structures and normal variations in the mouth
- Evaluate infection risk in various tasks in a dental clinic and apply relevant infection control procedures
Formal Requirements
To enroll in the course, students must have passed exams in:
- Basal human biology and the chemical foundation of the body
- Tooth morphology
- Development and microscopic structure of teeth
- Medical cell and tissue biology
Teaching Methods
The course will be taught through dialogue-based group instruction and clinical exercises, focusing on examination methods on fellow students.

The course will be assessed based on participation in exercises, and students will receive a course certificate upon completion. The assessment criteria include:
- Knowledge: Explain the clinical significance of knowledge about anatomical structures and normal variations in the mouth, demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between anatomical structures in the mouth and their function, and describe general infection control procedures.
- Skills: Identify and apply correct anatomical and Latin terminology, evaluate infection risk in various tasks in a dental clinic, and apply relevant infection control procedures.
- Competences: Apply correct anatomical and Latin terminology in clinical evaluation and description of anatomical structures and normal variations in the mouth, and follow relevant infection control guidelines in a dental clinic.
