Program Overview

The University of Copenhagen offers a course in Natural Resource Management and Integrated Coastal Zone Management, which is part of the Bachelor's program in Geography and Geoinformatics.

  • Knowledge: Coastal formation processes, water level changes, sediment budgets, management laws and principles, interest conflicts, and case studies.
  • Skills:
    • Explain the authorities responsible for coastal zone management.
    • Explain the principles and perform a natural analysis of a coastal area.
    • Explain theories on coastal zone management.
    • Evaluate the effects of different scenarios for changes in the coastal zone and the advantages and disadvantages of different measures.
    • Explain concrete examples of coastal zone management in Denmark, the EU, and tropical areas.
  • Competencies: Analyze, evaluate, and apply results, methods, theory, and data in connection with coastal zone management.

Recommended Prerequisites

To follow the course, a level of knowledge corresponding to the BSc in Geography and Geoinformatics program's compulsory courses is recommended.

Notes

The course is one of a series of limited elective courses that give students the opportunity to specialize in natural geography, social geography, geoinformatics, or environmental geography, in this case, natural geography.
