Course Title
Theory 2: Sport, Policy and Welfare
Course Description
This course applies sociological and political theories to understand the relationships between individuals, states, and civil society in the context of sports. The course covers topics such as the role of sports in policy and welfare, the impact of sports on social inequality, and the importance of social capital in sports.
Course Objectives
- Knowledge: Students will gain a fundamental understanding of sociological and political theories related to sports.
- Skills: Students will develop the ability to analyze and reflect on the significance of these theories in understanding sports-related issues.
- Competencies: Students will be able to apply theoretical concepts to describe, analyze, and critically evaluate current issues and cases in sports.
Course Materials
The course materials will be announced before the start of the course on Absalon.
Teaching Methods
The course will include lectures, group work, exercises, student presentations, and discussions.
Assessment
The course will be assessed through a written synopsis and an oral exam. The synopsis should be 4-6 pages long and will be written individually or in pairs. The oral exam will be 15-25 minutes long, depending on whether the synopsis is written individually or in pairs.
