Course Description
The course, "Introduction to Human Nutrition," is designed for second-year students in the Bachelor's program in Food Science and Nutrition. It covers the fundamental aspects of human nutrition, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and their physiological functions.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
- Understand the basic physiological functions of nutrients, their digestion, absorption, and metabolism
- Describe the principles of nutrition recommendations and dietary advice for healthy individuals and special population groups
- Understand the basic principles of selected measurement methods used in nutrition research
- Apply knowledge of nutrients and human nutrition to evaluate the health aspects of food and diet
Course Content
The course consists of lectures, exercises, group work, literature searches, and problem-solving. Topics covered include:
- Macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fat
- Micronutrients: selected minerals and vitamins
- Nutrition recommendations and methods for assessing nutritional status
