Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of common acute conditions and diseases in companion animals and livestock
- Understand the principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Explain the mechanisms, advantages, and disadvantages of common analgesics, sedatives, and anesthetics
- Identify and manage obstetric problems in companion animals and livestock
- Master the basic principles of fluid and shock treatment, including transfusion medicine
Skills and Competencies
Students will acquire the following skills and competencies:
- Optimize patient care through problem-oriented clinical examination and anamnesis
- Evaluate the need for fluid and shock treatment, analgesia, sedation, and anesthesia
- Develop and justify diagnostic and therapeutic plans for critically ill patients
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and laypeople in acute situations
- Apply digital tools for relevant data sets and utilize technological equipment for monitoring and treating critically ill and anesthetized patients
Evaluation and Assessment
The course evaluation model includes a written exam with multiple-choice questions. The exam is held at the KU examination houses and is organized by the involved institutes.
Examination Requirements
To pass the course, students must:
- Attend at least 80% of each module
- Participate actively and satisfactorily in theoretical instruction and clinical rotations
- Complete written assignments satisfactorily
