Program Overview
The program in question is the "Law - Forest and Nature" course, which is part of the Continuing and Professional Education offered by the University of Copenhagen. This course is designed for students interested in forest and nature management, particularly those studying to be forest and landscape engineers or those with a background in science.
Course Description
The course provides an introduction to law as a discipline, focusing on administrative law, which forms the basis for the handling of cases by authorities. It covers the legal rules regulating land use and the protection of nature, landscape, and cultural monuments. The course also delves into specific regulations such as planning and zoning systems, protected natural types, building and protection lines, conservation, forest conservation duty, and agricultural duty, among others.
Learning Objectives
The overall objective of the course is to familiarize students with legal methods and enable them to find, interpret, and apply legal sources relevant to nature management in Denmark. By the end of the course, students should have an understanding of basic legal principles, legal information searching, and legal argumentation. They should also have an overview of the legal frameworks for nature management in Denmark and be able to identify and discuss administrative and environmental legal issues related to forest and nature management.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on a combination of self-study, lectures, quizzes, group teaching, and group work focused on concrete nature and environmental legal cases. The teaching materials include cases from real life, legislation, literature, and teaching videos, most of which are available online.
Examination
The examination is a written on-site exam lasting 2 hours with supervision. The exam consists of a multiple-choice test based on concrete case files, which may be supplemented by questions requiring short explanatory texts.
