Program Overview

The University of Copenhagen offers a course in Processing Drone Data, which is part of the Continuing and Professional Education program. The course aims to equip students with the skills to prepare and process drone data for use in forestry, landscape, and park management.

Course Description

The course focuses on planning and processing drone data, including RGB and multispectral photos, as well as LIDAR data. Students will learn to plan the acquisition of drone data, create orthophotos, and validate the data.

Learning Objectives

The course covers the following learning objectives:

  • Knowledge of planning, heights, overlap, Ground Control Points, orthophotos, Point Cloud, DTM, DSM, Rasterbånd, spectral photos, and NVDI
  • Skills in installing and setting up programs for processing drone data, defining and planning flights for data collection, and explaining the choice of functions in different contexts
  • Competencies in structuring data, choosing relevant functions, and solving problem statements in professional tasks related to forestry and landscape management

Teaching Methods

The course uses a "flipped learning" approach, where students prepare through reading, watching videos, and completing small tasks before attending classes. The classes consist of a short lecture followed by a case study, which students work on in groups.

Course Materials

Students are required to bring their own computer, on which they will install OpenSource programs such as WebODM and QGIS.

Practical Information

The course takes place at Skovskolen Nødebo, Nødebovej 77A, 3480 Fredensborg, and is also streamed online for remote participation.

Examination

The course is examined through a written assignment, which is completed within 2 hours under supervision. The assignment is evaluated based on the student's ability to fulfill the course's learning objectives at a satisfactory level.
