Program Overview

Program Overview

The University of Copenhagen offers a comprehensive program in Entomology, providing students with a thorough understanding of biodiversity and the importance of preserving it. The program focuses on arthropod diversity in terrestrial and limnic environments, covering key groups and their characteristics, as well as notable examples of adaptations to different lifestyles.

Program Objectives

The program aims to equip students with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Identify land animals to order/underorder and justify this based on knowledge of relevant diagnostic features.
  • Gain an overview of the biological diversity of groups, including examples of adaptations to lifestyles and relationships with other organisms.
  • Understand the evolutionary history of land animals and the threats they face in the current biodiversity crisis.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the structure and function of arthropod bodies.
  • Acquire knowledge of structural terminology to apply standard determination literature.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the biological significance of notable external and internal structures.
  • Gain the ability to communicate knowledge about the diversity and importance of land animals.

Program Structure

The program consists of lectures and exercises, with a total of 206 hours of work, including:

  • 50 hours of lectures
  • 99 hours of preparation
  • 20 hours of practical exercises
  • 37 hours of examination
