Program Overview

The University of Copenhagen offers a course titled "INF: Problemløsning og design" (Problem Solving and Design) as part of its Bachelor's program in Informationsvidenskab og kulturformidling (Information Science and Cultural Communication).

Course Description

This course introduces students to design thinking as a method for problem-solving and design. Using selected 'real-life' cases, students identify relevant problem areas and then qualify these through more in-depth theoretical and methodological investigations. Based on the conducted investigations, students work on proposals for problem-solving and prototyping in a makerspace. Finally, students evaluate their proposed solutions and products and present them at a joint final conference.

Learning Objectives

The course aims to equip students with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and understanding of central elements in the research process for analyzing case-based problem statements
  • Understanding of maker thinking and design processes
  • Ability to apply a makerspace in designing a product
  • Ability to design products based on case-based problem statements within Information & IT and ABM
  • Ability to communicate developed products
  • Competence in reflecting on the design of products in a makerspace
  • Competence in discussing product proposals developed based on case-based problem statements
  • Competence in participating in case work and design processes
