Graduate Program

The University of Texas at Austin is among the nation's top fifteen research universities. It is generally considered one of the five best public universities in the country. It offers many resources for interested students, including one of the country's largest research libraries. In addition to its strengths in Philosophy, the University's graduate programs in Anthropology, Artificial Intelligence, Astronomy, Business, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Geography, Geology, German, Latin American Studies, Law, Linguistics, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, and Zoology are regularly ranked among the fifteen best in the United States. Almost all University programs are ranked in the top twenty-five nationally.

The Philosophy Department, one of the nation's largest, was recently ranked among the top twenty programs in the United States, based on a survey of over 200 philosophers conducted by the Philosophical Gourmet Report. The Department's national standing has improved, and, thanks to strong administrative support for additional hiring in the near future, the Department seeks to establish itself firmly among the nation's very best programs. The Department is ranked highly in ancient philosophy, history of analytic philosophy, metaethics, philosophy of language, logic, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of science.
