The Elements of Business Certificate

The Elements of Business Certificate is a new certificate program launched in Fall 2024. It allows non-business students to customize a business credential that best complements their academic and career goals.

Certificate Requirements

The certificate requires a choice of 18 hours on a letter-grade basis, with a minimum of 9 completed in residence within one year after graduation.

Course Options

  • ACC 310F: Foundations of Accounting (ACC 311 and ACC 312 can substitute if both are taken)
  • MIS 302F: Foundations of Information Technology Management (or equivalent)
  • BA 320F: Foundations of Entrepreneurship
  • FIN 320F: Foundations of Finance (ACC 310F is a pre-requisite for FIN 320F)
  • FIN 322F: Foundations of Personal Finance
  • IB 320F: Foundations of International Business
  • LEB 320F: Foundations of Business Law and Ethics
  • MAN 320F: Foundations of Management and Organizational Behavior
  • MKT 320F: Foundations of Marketing

Application Procedures

To apply for the certificate, students must follow these steps:

  1. Start the application with Registrar Document Submissions.
  2. Enter the EID.
  3. From the ‘Field of Study’ menu, choose ‘Business Administration’.
  4. From the ‘Type’ menu, choose ‘The Elements of Business (CTB A07)’.
  5. Confirm the choice and submit the application.

Important Notes

  • At least 9 hours of coursework must be completed prior to degree certification in order to be eligible to complete the certificate as a standalone.
  • Students pursuing the certificate as a standalone have up to one academic year to complete any remaining coursework.
  • Students must contact their academic advisor to have the minor attached to their degree profile. The credential cannot be awarded when the student graduates if it has not been added to the degree profile.
