Overview
The Game Development and Design Program is a multidisciplinary program that allows students to explore the field of game development and design. The program is offered by the University of Texas at Austin and is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the game development industry.
Advising
Current UT Austin students who are interested in the Game Development and Design Program should contact the academic advisor(s) in their respective department for assistance with scheduling the recommended courses as preparation for admission to the program. The departments that offer advising for the program include:
- Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies
- Department of Computer Science
- Department of Radio-Television Film
- Texas Immersive Media Institute
Admission Requirements
Prospective students who are interested in pursuing the Game Development and Design Program should apply for admission as an undergraduate. Students must first be admitted to UT Austin prior to acceptance into the Game Development and Design Program. In their application to UT Austin, students should specify one of the following areas of study as their first choice:
- Arts and Entertainment Technologies
- Computer Science
- Radio-Television-Film Each department may have its own admission requirements, and students should contact the departments for further information.
Transfer Students
Transfer students who are interested in pursuing the Game Development and Design Program should visit the University of Texas at Austin Transfer Resources site for information on application and transferring course credit. The departments of AET, CS, RTF, and the Texas Immersive Institute offer courses applicable to the Game Development and Design Program that ultimately lead to the Game Development Capstone.
Game Development Capstone
The Game Development Capstone is a key component of the Game Development and Design Program. The capstone allows students to apply the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout the program to develop a game or interactive media project. The capstone is offered by the departments of AET, CS, RTF, and the Texas Immersive Institute.
Bridging Disciplines Program
The Bridging Disciplines Program in Digital Arts and Media is another option for prospective students who are interested in pursuing the Game Development and Design Program. This program allows students to take courses across departments and be considered for the Game Development Capstone. The program is designed for students who are pursuing degrees in other majors and want to explore the field of game development and design.
