Course Description

Advanced Advocacy: Jury Selection & Psychology is a class limited to 3L students, where you will spend six weeks learning about and practicing jury selection (voir dire). The course covers:

  • Techniques for jury selection, including two opportunities to practice jury selection with "real people" (Austin residents not affiliated with the law school)
  • Advanced jury persuasion techniques by considering the psychology of both the audience (the jury) and the lawyer
  • Working with licensed psychiatrists to prepare them to testify as expert witnesses and conducting direct and cross-examinations of the experts

This class combines discussion and practice sessions, focusing on both traditional legal exercises and experimental approaches to advocacy. Suggested prerequisites include Evidence, Advocacy Survey, and advanced Advocacy work.
