Graduate Certificate: Management Analytics

The Graduate Certificate in Management Analytics is designed to equip students with the tools to turn raw data into actionable insights, giving them a competitive edge in any industry. Through four graduate-level courses, this program helps students transform complex data into clear, strategic business recommendations, build predictive models to optimize operations, marketing, logistics, and finance, and solve real-world business challenges and communicate insights with confidence.


Program Overview

  • The program is offered in-person and can be completed in 8 to 10 months, with the flexibility to take two courses per term to fit the student's schedule.
  • The program consists of four required courses, including two required courses and two elective courses.

Required Courses

  • Data Analytics I: Discover tools, methods, and software packages used in data analytics to collect, organize, and prepare clean data for analysis.
  • Predictive Analytics in Business: Application of data-driven predictive models to solve real-life business problems in operations, marketing, finance, and other business functions. Techniques covered include decision trees, classification and association rules, and cluster analysis.

Elective Courses

  • Fintech: Explore and understand the fast-moving and recent technological improvements in various industries and how they change the conventional thinking and trading in the banking and finance industry.
  • Prescriptive Analytics in Business: Advanced quantitative decision-making and problem-solving skills in business environments with data and fact-based analysis. Techniques such as data-driven optimization, deterministic and probabilistic modeling, and simulation are covered through case studies.
  • Marketing Analytics: Develop and implement marketing strategies driven by data analytic techniques. Key marketing concepts will be integrated with segmentation analytics and social media analytics.
  • Supply Chain Analytics: Optimal design and management of supply chains with analytical tools. Topics include network design, inventory management, transportation, contracting, coordination and collaboration, capacity management, and customer-supplier relations.
  • Analytics of International Business Environment: A data-driven approach to the analysis of the international business environment. Use of data analytics to appraise emerging trends in a country/region/world business environment and derive strategic implications for business enterprises.

Admissions

To be admitted into this graduate certificate program, applicants must have completed either:


  • An undergraduate degree with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in a quantitative-focused area such as Business/Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Technology.
  • A Master of Business Administration, Master of Management, or an equivalent degree with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution. Prior work experience is not a requirement for admission.

Applicants for whom English is not a first language must complete either:


  • IELTS: a minimum of 7.0 on the Academic version, with at least 6.0 in each section.
  • TOEFL: a minimum of 97 (iBT version) with at least 20 in each section.

  • Dr. Raymond Patterson, PhD: Professor of Business Technology Management (BTM), holds the Haskayne Research Professorship in BTM and serves as the BTM Area Chair at the Haskayne.
  • Dr. Osman Alp, PhD: Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management and serves as the Program Coordinator for the Digitization for Innovative Supply Chains (DISC) Consortium at the University of Calgary.
