Program Overview

Admission to the DVM Program

The Admissions Committee recommends students for admission to the program on the basis of academic and non-academic factors. Meeting UCVM’s stated academic requirements does not guarantee that an applicant will be offered an interview, however, those individuals who meet the minimum academic standards will be eligible for consideration.

Assessment

Selection for an interview is based upon a threshold of academic performance during undergraduate study established by the four (4) full-time term GPA of > 3.0 and a Score of > 495 on the 2015 MCAT. Applications meeting or exceeding the threshold will then be called academically qualified applications and will be subject to a file review. The file review process includes both objective and subjective assessment of non-academic attributes by three (3) members of the File Review Subcommittee. The File Review Subcommittee will be blinded to the GPA and MCAT scores as well as sex, age, and name of the applicant.

Decision

The process that identifies how the rank order is determined by which applicants will be offered admission is based on the following system:

  • MMI Performance: 70%
  • Essay Performance: 30%

On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation within Alberta (including Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6).
