Program Overview

The Visual Studies program at the University of Calgary offers students a focused experience in creative research, supporting their artistic and intellectual development. This program expands students' creative horizons through engaging with a wide array of studio art practices.


Career Opportunities

As a Visual Studies graduate, students will be prepared for career opportunities in areas such as:


  • The non-profit sector
  • Public museums and private art galleries
  • Commercial photography or design
  • Art gallery assistant or technician
  • Interior design A Visual Studies degree can also be used as a stepping-stone to graduate studies in visual art or another professional degree such as architecture, design, art therapy, or education.

Portfolio Submission

Portfolio submission deadlines vary based on the type of admission:


  • High School students applying for Early Admission: Submit online portfolio by January 15.
  • Regular Admission: Submit online portfolio by March 1.
  • Current Visual Studies students applying to the Honours program: Submit online portfolio by March 1.
