Program Overview


University Entrance Program - Arts

The University Entrance Program - Arts is designed to offer students a broad liberal education with the ability to specialize in various fields of study. As a student in this program, you can take courses in different subject areas to determine which degree program you would like to apply to.


Introduction to the Program

Congratulations on being accepted into the Arts University Entrance Program. This program will provide you with the opportunity to explore current academic and career interests and desired degree programs. You can use your course registration to discover new interests and new potential degree programs.


Courses Required in the First Year

In the first year, you will be required to take the following courses:


  • Fall semester
    • Science Option or Open Option
    • Open Option
    • Open Option
    • Open Option
  • Winter semester
    • Science Option or Open Option
    • Open Option
    • Open Option
    • Open Option

Taking two courses from the Faculty of Science in your first year will fulfill the Science-breadth requirement for most degree programs offered by the Faculty of Arts. The Science-breadth requirement can be completed in any year.


Registration Restrictions

Please be aware that many courses have registration restrictions that reserve seats for students in particular degree programs. You can attempt to enroll in reserved courses when these restrictions lift, if there is available space, and you have the required requisites completed. If a wait list is available, you can attempt to wait list for courses while restrictions are in place.


UEP-Arts Undergraduate Admission Guarantee

Students in UEP-Arts take undergraduate-level courses and then apply to degree programs of their choice. Some degree programs in the Faculty of Arts are eligible for the Undergraduate Admission Guarantee. Review Undergraduate Admission Guarantee eligible programs on the University Entrance Program website under the “Current University Entrance Program Students” section.


Credit Upon Admission

If you are coming to the University of Calgary with Advanced Placement credit or International Baccalaureate credit, you will follow the same registration process as any first-time university student. You may be eligible to use your transfer credit in your degree program depending on the program you have entered and whether or not the courses are applicable.
