Bachelor of Science in Energy Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Energy Engineering program is designed for graduates of approved energy technology diploma programs, providing a seamless transition to a University of Calgary engineering degree. This program builds on students' engineering technology backgrounds, offering core courses in engineering, science, and math, as well as chemical, petroleum, mechanical, and energy and environment engineering courses.
About the Program
This program is an additional two full years of study for energy technology graduates, leading to both an engineering technology diploma and an engineering degree. The curriculum is designed to equip students with a unique mix of technology and engineering science skills and knowledge, making them highly employable in the energy industry.
Optional Minors
- Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development: A joint program with the Haskayne School of Business, teaching students the principles and practices of developing new ventures and managing small- to medium-sized companies.
- Management and Society: A program that teaches students about the role of management in institutions and society, applying managerial skills in a business environment.

The energy engineering program addresses the energy industry's need for graduates with a mix of technology and engineering science skills. A Unique Engineering Pathway: From Diploma to Degree
This program is designed for graduates of approved energy technology diploma programs, providing a seamless transition to a University of Calgary engineering degree program. The pathway includes:
- Earning a diploma at an approved polytechnic institution.
- Starting the university degree program in the spring, acquainting students with campus life, coursework, and resources.
- Completing the degree in two years, including spring and summer semesters, studying chemical, petroleum, mechanical, and energy and environment engineering, and completing a capstone design project.
- An optional 12- to 16-month internship between the third and fourth years, providing paid work experience locally, in other parts of Canada, or abroad.
