Master of Nursing (MN) Program Overview
The Master of Nursing (MN) program is a thesis-based program designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced practice in focused areas, including direct clinical practice, education, or health policy and leadership. Program Structure
- Courses: The program includes topics such as quantitative and qualitative research, nursing leadership, and others.
- Thesis: Students are required to submit and defend an original research thesis.
- Online Delivery: The program is available through online delivery.
- Time Commitment: The expected completion time is 3 years, with a maximum of 4 years.
- Supervisor: A supervisor is required but is not necessary prior to the start of the program.

The Master of Nursing program offers a variety of opportunities for advancing careers. A master's degree is a prerequisite for doctoral studies.
Admission Requirements
- GPA: A minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study.
- Minimum Education: Registered Nurse or a Registered Psychiatric Nurse holding a baccalaureate degree, normally in nursing.
- Statistics Course: One undergraduate course (3 units) in Statistics with a grade of 'C' or better.
- Work Samples: None required.
- Documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume outlining education, professional employment experience, academic awards, scholarly presentations or publications, and roles or affiliations with academic or professional organizations.
- Evidence of active nursing registration in Alberta through the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or active nursing registration in their province or territory of employment.
- Reference Letters: Two reference letters, one from an individual capable of assessing the applicant's academic and research ability, and one from an individual who can attest to the applicant's nursing practice and expertise.
- Test Scores: None required.
- English Language Proficiency:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL ibt) score of 97.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.0.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 68.
- Canadian Academic English Language test (CAEL) score of 70.
- Academic Communication Certificate (ACC) score of A-.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced or Cambridge C2 Proficiency minimum score of 191.

- Canadians and permanent residents: Applications open January 1, with a June 30 application deadline and a July 15 document deadline.
- International students: June 30 application deadline and July 15 document deadline.
