Program Name Change

As of July 1, 2021, the Women’s Studies program has been renamed to Gender and Sexuality Studies. This change reflects the discipline’s expanded concerns with gender, including sexuality, sexual health, and sexual rights, recognizing all forms of gender identity and expression as important, valid, and legitimate.

Implications of the Name Change

  • The program name change does not alter the program requirements or content.
  • Students who were enrolled in the Women’s Studies program before the name change will still receive their BA in Women’s Studies.
  • Students entering the program in Fall 2021 and thereafter will receive a BA in Gender and Sexuality Studies.
  • Current students in the BA Women’s Studies program have the option to apply for a program change to reflect the new name on their diploma and transcript by February 1 in the year prior to their graduation.
