Program Logistics
Academics
Undergraduate business exchange students generally take 5-6 courses at WHU, which mostly transfer for business elective credit. WHU offers mod-length classes in a variety of subject areas, including finance electives, business ethics, human resources, supply chain, strategy, and innovation. About 80% of undergraduate courses are taught in English, and there is no language requirement to participate in the program.
Courses taken at the WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management will transfer back to UNC Pass (WHU grade of 4 and above)/Fail (WHU grade below 4). Pass grades do not affect your UNC GPA. Fail grades transfer back to UNC as Fs, which will affect your UNC GPA.
You will transfer back 2.7 UNC credits for every 4.5 ECTS credit course, and are expected to take five courses worth 4.5 ECTS credits each during the semester.
This program also fulfills the Experiential Education requirement or the High Impact Experience requirement (if you are under the new IDEAs curriculum). Full-time enrollment in this program is defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Housing
WHU will coordinate housing for exchange students. Options include living in shared apartments with other international or German students, having a single apartment in a guesthouse, or women can choose to live in a converted convent. Furnishings and linens are provided.

- If you are applying for a Kenan-Flagler Global Programs Scholarship, please note that average merit scholarship amounts for this program range between $500-$1500.
- If you are applying for a financial-need scholarship, the specific scholarship amount will be determined by supplemental UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid information.

Housing
WHU will coordinate housing for exchange students. Options include living in shared apartments with other international or German students, having a single apartment in a guesthouse, or women can choose to live in a converted convent. Furnishings and linens are provided.

The Undergraduate Business Program offers both merit and financial-need-based scholarships to support our students who wish to study abroad.
- If you are applying for a Kenan-Flagler Global Programs Scholarship, please note that average merit scholarship amounts for this program range between $500-$1500.
- If you are applying for a financial-need scholarship, the specific scholarship amount will be determined by supplemental UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid information.
Study abroad scholarship applications are embedded in the global program application and award amounts will be communicated with program decisions.
Travel Documents
Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date.
Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application.
**Will I need immigration documents?****_If you are accepted into this program you will need to travel to a German consulate/embassy in the United States to obtain a visa permitting you to study in Germany. For this appointment, you will need your passport in hand along with other documentation from our office and the host university office.
