Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: Capstone Course

The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: Capstone Course is designed for graduating senior PPE minors who have completed the 384 Gateway course and all other necessary courses for the PPE minor. This course aims to equip students with the skills to translate their PPE career into tangible, real-world results by synthesizing both theoretical and practical commitments.

Course Description

The course begins by exploring what contributes to a successful policy intervention and what leads to a good set of goals. Students will examine why some problems deserve attention and how to evaluate which problems can be plausibly solved. Then, working in groups, students will address a problem in the UNC community that can realistically be changed for the better. Using cutting-edge empirical research methods and statistical software, students will present their findings, illustrating how a potential pilot program might be implemented and why there is reason to believe that such a program would be successful.

Prerequisites

• Completion of PHIL/POLI/ECON 384: Gateway to Philosophy, Politics, and Economics
• Completion of all other courses necessary to complete the PPE minor
