Program Overview
Introduction to the Neuro-X Program
The Neuro-X program is a Master's degree that combines science, technology, and computation to provide students with a broad and universal training in neuroscience, computational neuroscience, and neuroengineering. This multidisciplinary program prepares students for careers in neurotechnology, research in neuroscience-related fields, and other areas where a strong technological component is required.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the Neuro-X program are to provide students with a comprehensive education in:
- Foundations of neuroscience
- Computational neuroscience
- Neuroengineering
The program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work in clinical applications, product development, fundamental or translational research, and other areas.
Simplified Study Plan
The Neuro-X program is a Master's degree that requires 120 ECTS credits. The study plan includes a range of core courses, projects in research labs, and in-depth courses in areas such as:
- Technology
- Data science and machine learning
- Imaging and image analysis
- Scientific thinking
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the Neuro-X program, students must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Life Sciences Engineering, Microengineering, or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. EPFL degrees in other fields related to science or engineering may also be considered, subject to a dossier-based analysis. Non-EPFL degrees in the same fields are eligible on the basis of an application dossier and must be accompanied by excellent academic records. Prerequisites for all applications include an introductory course to neurosciences, and the acquisition of additional credits to fill any gaps may be required.
Teaching Language
The teaching language of the Neuro-X program is English.
Diploma and Title Obtained
Upon completion of the program, students obtain an EPFL Master of Science (MSc) in Neuro-X, which gives them the right to use the title of EPF qualified Engineer in Neuro-X.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Neuro-X program have a range of career opportunities, including:
- Clinical applications
- Product development
- Fundamental or translational research
- Industry (MedTech, pharmaceutical companies, or healthcare)
- Hospitals
- Research institutions
Their interdisciplinary profile and ability to see the big picture in terms of systems, combined with a realistic perspective of what it means to develop a product, make them highly esteemed professionals able to interact with experts from many other domains.
