Program Overview
The Equivalence for Musical Studies program at EPFL is designed for students who are enrolled in a conservatory or music school recognized by the institution. This program allows students to pursue their musical studies while also completing their degree at EPFL.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the Equivalence for Musical Studies program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a conservatory or music school recognized by EPFL
- Have completed a minimum of 6 years of musical studies
- Submit a dossier of application, including a letter of motivation, an official document from the music school defining the current level, and an attestation of enrollment for the academic year concerned
Program Structure
The program is structured as follows:
- Students who obtain an equivalence for "Musical Studies" enroll in a SHS course in the fall semester and are exempt from it in the spring semester
- The grade obtained from the conservatory or music school counts as the SHS result for the spring semester, marked as "R" (passed) or "E" (failed)
Application Procedure
To apply for the Equivalence for Musical Studies program, students must submit a dossier of application to the SHS program coordinator by September 20th. The dossier must include:
- A letter of motivation
- An official document from the music school defining the current level
- An attestation of enrollment for the academic year concerned
- The decision of admission is communicated in October
- Once admitted, the student is invited to send a confirmation of enrollment in the conservatory or music school for the upcoming year by September 20th
Conditions
The admission to the "Musical Studies" program is based on a dossier of application. Students can apply every year: 2nd and 3rd year of Bachelor, 1st year of Master. The level of musical studies must be equivalent to a minimum of 6 years of musical studies accomplished. Students who terminate their musical studies will reintegrate the normal SHS formation. In case of failure at the conservatory or music school, the student must redo the whole year or take another SHS course.
