Program Overview
Program Overview
The Master's program in Sciences Humaines et Sociales (SHS) at EPFL is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human and social sciences. The program is offered over two consecutive semesters during the first year of the Master's curriculum.
Program Structure
- The first semester (autumn) is an introduction to the field, taught through in-person lectures.
- The second semester (spring) involves individual or group research on specific themes developed during the course.
- The objective is to enable students to work, often in groups, on the development of a problem and its resolution in a project-based approach.
Program Details
Information Important
In case of exceptional admission to the Master's program in the spring semester, students will not be able to follow the teachings for which a prerequisite was taught in the autumn semester. The student must first follow a teaching of their choice "SHS: introduction to the project" in the autumn semester before being able to follow the teaching "SHS: project" in the following spring semester.
Research Areas
The program offers more than 20 thematic SHS teachings at the Master's level, with limited places available. These teachings provide interdisciplinary approaches to specific themes.
