The Practical - Van der Goot Lab is a 1-credit course offered by the EPFL. The course is taught in English and is a 3-day block course that takes place every year in January.

The course focuses on membrane organization, investigating the compartmentalization of biological membranes and the determinants of the localization of transmembrane proteins in the 2-dimensional space of the membranes.

Content

The course covers the following topics:

• Introduction
• Isolation of membrane domains (tissue culture, subcellular fractionation, SDS-PAGE, western blotting)
• Cellular localization of membrane proteins (immunofluorescence)

Learning Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of cellular and membrane biology is recommended.
