Overview of the G7: Mine Occupational Health and Safety Management Course
The G7: Mine Occupational Health and Safety Management course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop, implement, evaluate, and manage occupational health and safety management systems in the minerals and resources sector. This course aligns with the industry unit of competency RIIWHS601E: Establish and Maintain the WHS management system.
Course Objectives
- Identify the components of a health and safety management system based on AS/NZS ISO 45001 and legislation.
- Identify and develop the components of an effective health and safety management system within the context of the participant's organisation.
- Demonstrate the ability to critique existing health and safety management and plan for continuous improvement of the system.
Target Audience
The course is aimed at managers seeking to upskill their risk management expertise, including:
- Mine, project, or section managers, including those applying for a mine site senior executive or underground manager role.
- Risk and control owners.
- Technical support staff.
- Superintendents.
- Plant supervisors.
- Safety managers and practitioners.
- Division or corporate technical and functional staff such as engineering, ventilation, safety, human resources, finance, and procurement.
Entry Requirements
There are no prerequisites for this course. However, prior completion of the G3 G-MIRM Risk Management System course is recommended.
Course Structure
The course is delivered over 4 days and includes:
- 42 hours of in-person workshop time.
- 10 hours of additional pre-reading using online materials.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum covers:
Day 1
- Health and safety management systems, AS/NZS ISO 45001, and relevant legislations.
- The connection between health and safety management systems and principal hazards and high-hazard industries.
- Development of a health and safety management system, including policy, organisation, roles and responsibilities, resources, consultation and participation plan, objectives and improvement strategies, and communication plan.
Day 2
- Identification of the risk management system.
- Management of principal hazard management plans.
- Management of health hazards (such as psychosocial or dust).
- Emergency response.
- Triggered Action Response Plans (TARPs).
- Conditions for withdrawal.
Day 3
- Identifying and understanding key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Management of change.
- Training, inductions, and competency.
- Investigation strategies and investigation management.
Day 4
- Development of plans for contractor health and safety.
- Records management.
- Review, audit, and continuous improvement.
- Integration with operational risk management and other organisational systems.
Assessment
Participants will submit 3 assessment pieces and an online quiz.
Certification and Accreditation
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion to verify their skills and achievements.
Cost
The cost for the course is:
- Individual domestic (ex. GST): A$3,200.
- Individual international (GST not payable): A$3,200.
