Program Overview
Overview
The Bachelor of Computer Science is a 3-year program designed to provide a deeper understanding of all aspects of computer technology. As part of the program, students will combine theory with hands-on experience to learn how to create and analyze computer-based systems. They will develop strong analytical, logical, and development skills necessary to advance computing and its applications.
Entry Requirements
- Prerequisites: Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) with General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C) and Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C).
- Minimum entry score: Select where you studied and your qualification to see the minimum entry score you need to be considered for this program.
- Equivalent subjects: Subject | Qualification equivalent
- Entry score threshold: ATAR / Rank | IB: 84 | 32
- English language requirements: IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.
Majors
The program offers the following majors:
- Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science dedicated to creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.
- Cyber Security: By studying cyber security, students will learn the fundamental processes and practices to protect computing systems from attack, damage, or unauthorized access.
- Data Science: Students will learn comprehensive and fundamental techniques for end-to-end processing that transforms data into information.
- Programming Theory: Programming theory is the backbone of software development, exploring the design and analysis of languages and tools that ensure efficient, secure, and reliable software across critical domains.
Fees and Scholarships
- Indicative annual fee: Approximately $8,355 (2026) for domestic students and AUD $58,056 (2026) for international students.
- Government assistance: Domestic places in the Bachelor of Computer Science are Commonwealth supported.
- Financial aid: International students might be eligible for financial aid from their home country or the Australian Government.
- Scholarships: Students may be eligible for more than 100 scholarships.
How to Apply
- Applying online: If senior schooling is from outside Australia, students can submit their application to UQ or use an approved UQ agent.
- Applying through QTAC: All domestic applications should be submitted to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
- Important dates: Check the closing date for this program on the QTAC website or UQ's Academic Calendar.
