Program Overview
Overview
The Bachelor of Science (Honours) program offers the chance to pursue an independent research project under the supervision of an academic. You’ll have access to top facilities at UQ Gatton, including animal production units, horticultural fields, veterinary hospitals, research labs, and more than 1,000 hectares of unique subtropical farmland.
Entry Requirements
- Prerequisites: Bachelor of Science (or equivalent), with a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale, and a GPA of at least 4.5 for 8 units of courses at level 3 or higher relevant to the honours project.
- Minimum entry score: Select where you studied and your qualification to see the minimum entry score you need to be considered for this program.
- English language requirements: IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.
Fields of Study
The program offers the following fields of study:
- Animal and Veterinary Bioscience: Learn how animals function, behave, and reproduce, and how to improve their health, welfare, and interaction with humans.
- Animal Science: Take on an independent research project under the guidance of leading researchers.
- Plant Science: Help solve two of the biggest problems facing humans today: food security and our dependency on fossil fuels.
- Sustainable Agriculture: Gain the scientific knowledge, practical skills, and industry insights to lead the shift toward more resilient and sustainable food systems.

- Additional costs: Students are responsible for the cost of travel to attend intensive study blocks and transportation and accommodation to attend residential schools or practicals.
