Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalisation is designed to develop skills for revitalising the rich and diverse First Nations Languages in communities and for future generations. This program is exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and offers a respectful forum to learn new skills and perspectives from national and international Indigenous Language Revitalisation practice. Students will network with leading and emergent Language revitalisation experts.

• Designed by Indigenous Language specialists exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
• Offers a respectful forum to learn new skills and perspectives from national and international Indigenous Language Revitalisation practice.
• Students will develop the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to analyse, research, teach, and learn their Language.
• Builds a critical awareness of the social, cultural, and political issues important to Languages, Language advocates, and Language professionals.
• Strengthens project design and management skills by creating community-focused Language research and resources for use in the student's own Language context.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility

To be eligible for entry, applicants must:

• Be an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
• Provide evidence of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status.
• Hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, or
• Have completed post-secondary studies plus two years full-time equivalent, relevant professional and/or community experience, or
• Have five years full-time equivalent, relevant professional and/or community experience.

Relevant Disciplines

• Post-secondary studies refer to any Australian Quality Framework Level 3, 4, 5, or 6 qualification.
• Relevant professional and/or community experience includes involvement in own Indigenous language work or community work that incorporates Indigenous languages.

Fees and Scholarships

Indicative Annual Fee

Approximate yearly cost of tuition (8 units). Fees are reviewed each year and may increase.

Government Assistance

• HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme to assist eligible students with the cost of their student contribution amounts.
• Centrelink support: The Australian Government offers a number of income-support payments to eligible Australian university students.

Scholarships

Students may be eligible for more than 100 scholarships.
