Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Arts in Translation and Interpreting is a one-year program that offers industry-focused training in community translation and interpreting. The program is designed to equip students with the skills to work in an increasingly globalized and digitalized translation and interpreting market.
Program Details
- The program is available in two fields of study: Chinese and Japanese.
- Students can choose to specialize in either Chinese-English or Japanese-English translating and interpreting.
- The program includes training in digital technological trends in both translation and interpreting.
- Students will gain skills in translation memory (TM), computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, machine translation (MT), and post-editing.

Entry Requirements
To be eligible for entry, students must have:
- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, or
- Completed post-secondary studies, plus 2 years full-time equivalent relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in spoken and written Chinese and English for the Chinese field of study, or
- Proficiency in spoken and written Japanese and English for the Japanese field of study.
- A grade point average (GPA) of 4.5 on a 7-point scale in their previous qualification.
- Relevant work experience includes Japanese-English interpreting and translation or Chinese-English interpreting and translation, or any other profession where the applicant has built a portfolio demonstrating their oral and written communication expertise in English and Japanese or Chinese.
English Language Requirements
- IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.
- TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21, and speaking 19.
- PTE Academic - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub-bands.
- BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
- CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub-bands.
Fees and Scholarships
- The indicative annual fee for domestic students is $4,740.
- The indicative annual fee for international students is AUD $45,792.
- Scholarships are available for eligible students.
