The Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) program is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in biotechnology, preparing them for a wide range of employment opportunities in Australia's thriving life sciences sector. The program offers five fields of study: Agricultural Biotechnology, Chemical and Nano Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Molecular and Microbial Biotechnology, and Synthetic Biology and Industrial Biotechnology.

  • Agricultural Biotechnology: This field focuses on the application of biotechnology in agriculture, including plant breeding, genetic improvement, and vaccine development.
  • Chemical and Nano Biotechnology: This field explores the use of nanotechnology in modern medicine, technology, and renewable energy, with applications in gene editing, recombinant DNA technology, and bioinformatics.
  • Medical Biotechnology: This field uses cutting-edge tools and techniques to prevent, diagnose, and treat current and emerging diseases, with opportunities for employment in biomedical science and the biotechnology industry.

Entry Requirements

  • Prerequisites: Bachelor of Biotechnology (or equivalent) with a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale and a GPA of at least 4.5 for 8 units of courses at level 3 or higher relevant to the honours project.
  • Minimum entry score: The minimum entry score varies depending on the qualification and country of origin.
  • English language requirements: IELTS overall 6.5, reading 6, writing 6, speaking 6, listening 6, or equivalent.

Fees and Scholarships

  • Indicative annual fee: Approximately $10,735 for domestic students and $58,056 for international students.
  • Government assistance: Domestic students may be eligible for HECS-HELP, while international students may be eligible for financial aid from their home country or the Australian Government.
