Overview

The Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) is a five-year program that prepares students for a rewarding career as a qualified dentist. The program combines cutting-edge education with hands-on experience to equip students with the latest knowledge and skills to prevent, diagnose, and treat oral diseases and abnormalities.


Program Details

  • The program is offered at the University of Queensland's Oral Health Centre, Australia's most advanced tertiary oral health facility.
  • Students will learn from dedicated specialist teachers and benefit from smaller cohorts, offering a deep and unique learning experience.

Entry Requirements

  • Prerequisites: Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Chemistry (Units 3 & 4, C) (Biology also recommended), with a minimum ATAR of 99.0 (or equivalent) and UCAT ANZ (from the year you apply).

  • English language requirements:
    • IELTS overall 7; reading 7; writing 7; speaking 7; listening 7.

    • PTE Academic - Overall 72, sub bands minimum 72.
    • CES - Overall 185, All sub bands minimum 185.

Fees and Scholarships

  • Indicative annual fee: $11,670 (2026)
  • Additional costs:
    • Additional practice teeth can be purchased at the student's discretion
    • Annual CPR re-certification (approximately $80 per year)
    • Dental instruments and equipment including models (approximately $1500).
    • Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
    • First Aid Certificate (including CPR) (approximately $130 renewed every 3 years)
    • Lab coat (approx. $50)
    • Laptop computer (value at student's discretion)
    • Models may be provided for use during assessments. A charge will be incurred if not returned in working condition (approximately $320 per set or $160 for an upper or lower).
    • Phantom head masks are provided, however a charge will be incurred if not returned in working condition (approximately $200)
    • Purchase of minimum number of teeth for compulsory pre-clinical learning activities (approximately $50 - $400 per year)
    • Safety glasses (approximately $25)
    • Scrubs (approximately $90 per set)
    • Costs for vaccinations and serology are the responsibility of the student and will vary based on individual and program requirements.

How to Apply

  • Applying online: If your senior schooling is from outside Australia, you can submit your application to UQ.
  • Applying through QTAC: All domestic applications should be submitted to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).

    • To commence study in semester 1 - September 30 of the previous year.
