Program Overview


Food Safety Program

The Food Safety short course is designed specifically for members of the food manufacturing sector, covering the core skills required to effectively manage a food processing enterprise.


Program Overview

This program is offered over 4 weeks, through a combination of interactive online learning modules and in-person training workshops (one workshop per week).


Learning Outcomes

You will learn how to:


  • establish and optimise operational processes
    • implement and monitor safety plans
    • prevent and manage food contamination and spoilage

Assessment

You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including written exams and reports, oral assessments and practical demonstrations.


Workshop Dates

  • St Lucia: 5–6 and 12–13 February 2025
  • Wide Bay–Burnett: 26–29 May 2025 This program can be run at regional locations around Australia on request. Locations require minimum numbers to go ahead.

Admission Criteria

You must:


  • be aged 18 years or over
  • work in the food manufacturing sector
  • have the support of your supervisor or employer
  • hold a minimum of a Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)

Technical Requirements

All UQ Skills programs require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.


Recognition of Prior Learning

If you have recent work experience, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.


Unique Student Identifier

You must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can accept your enrolment.

Units of Competency

To achieve this qualification, you must complete 3 units of competency:


  • Supervise and maintain a food safety plan (FBPFSY4001)
  • Control food contamination and spoilage (FBPTEC4003)
  • Establish operational requirements for a food processing enterprise (FBPFST4007)
