Farm Ready Program
The Farm Ready Program is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills for rural or farm industry placements. This program is available to UQ veterinary science undergraduates, as well as students from other institutions or individuals working in related industries.
Program Overview
The program offers nationally recognized skills in farm work and workplace health-and-safety best practices, along with hands-on training in vehicle operation and maintenance.
How You'll Learn
The program is delivered through a combination of online study and practical experience.
- Online learning: theory and assessment
- Practical training: one day of training and assessment at UQ Gatton
Participants must complete the online training before attending the on-campus training.
Start Dates
Practical training sessions are held periodically throughout semesters 1 and 2, including Saturdays and days during inter-semester recess. Sessions run from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Eligibility
This program is available to:
- UQ Bachelor of Veterinary Science students
- external students and industry groups
Resources
All participants require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Participants must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before their enrollment can be accepted.
Program Fees
- Full fee (UQ student): $550
- Full fee (non-UQ student): $600
This program is free for eligible UQ Bachelor of Veterinary Science students preparing for an EMS pre-clinical placement.
Units of Competency
To achieve this qualification, participants must complete the following 3 units:
- Participate in workplace health and safety processes (AHCWHS202)
- Operate side-by-side utility vehicles (AHCMOM216)
- Operate quad bikes (AHCMOM217)
