Program Overview


Food Manufacturing Technology

The Food Manufacturing Technology short course is designed with industry to develop new food products from concept to labelling and packaging. This course covers core product development processes, including innovation, formulation, sensory and product evaluation, and regulatory compliance. It also explores food preservation techniques to develop products with varying shelf life and implementation of process controls from scale-up to commercialisation.

  • Location: UQ St Lucia

How You'll Learn

This 8-week program includes 5 weeks of face-to-face delivery through a combination of interactive online learning modules, in-person workshops, and industry-based training (2 days). After the 5 weeks of learning, students will have time to complete the required assessments.

The start date for this program is 5 August 2025.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible, you must:


  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Work in the food manufacturing sector
  • Have the support of your supervisor or employer
  • Hold a minimum of a Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)

Target Audience

This training is highly encouraged for:


  • Junior technical staff or graduates developing skills and knowledge in product development and process control
  • SME owners looking to develop skills and knowledge in commercialisation of a product from idea/small scale to commercial production/retail
  • Primary producers looking to value add or develop a new food product for market

Resources and Support

All UQ Skills programs require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.

You must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before your enrolment can be accepted.


Fees

  • Full fee: $1,580
  • Australia's Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) offers funded places in this course for people working in the food and beverage manufacturing industry, with a non-refundable co-contribution fee of $150.
  • This program is free for UQ Alumni and FaBA delegates.
