Program Overview
Master of Social Work / Master of Public Health Program
The Master of Social Work / Master of Public Health (MSW/MPH) dual degree program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle global social and behavioral health issues. This program combines two advanced degrees in related fields, allowing students to share credits between programs and reduce the time and tuition costs necessary to complete both programs.
Program Overview
The MSW/MPH dual degree program is paired with a public health concentration of Global Health and Health Disparities. This concentration provides students with a foundation and skill set for addressing health equity issues locally and globally. Students will develop skills in:
- Public policy analysis and development
- Program planning and evaluation
- Systems-level thinking
- Research, practice, and application of theory
Coursework Information
The dual degree program is full-time and on-campus, welcoming students from a wide variety of undergraduate degree majors. The Advanced Standing dual degree program is available for applicants who have completed a BSW from an accredited program in the past seven years. A prescribed curricular plan is provided to ensure students meet all degree requirements. The MSW/MPH Dual Degree program aligns with all MPH concentrations except health communication.
Academic Schedule
- Students will attend CSU full-time for six semesters following the traditional academic calendar (Fall, Spring).
- As an Advanced Standing student, attendance is full-time for two calendar years (in Fall and Spring).
- The Fall term begins in mid-August for regular on-campus programs.
- Applications are accepted from September through December.

- 69 total credits
- The advanced standing dual degree results in students taking 12 fewer credits than if the degrees were obtained separately
Accreditation
The MSW program receives accreditation through the CSWE Accrediting body under the on-campus Master of Social Work Program.

The MSW/MPH dual degree program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in social work and public health, preparing them for careers in global health and health disparities. The program focuses on developing skills in public policy analysis, program planning, and systems-level thinking, as well as research and practice.
Research Areas
The program is affiliated with various research centers and labs, including the RISE HAI Lab and the Serious Illness and End-of-Life Narratives Lab. Students have the opportunity to engage in research projects and collaborate with faculty members on topics related to global health and health disparities.
