Course Details
BC 351 - Principles of Biochemistry
Course Description
Structure and function of biological molecules; biocatalysis; metabolism and energy transduction; gene expression. For majors in biological sciences, engineering, and preprofessional students in the health sciences.
Prerequisite
BZ 110 (Principles of Animal Biology) or BZ 120 (Principles of Plant Biology) or Attributes of Living Systems; CHEM 245 (Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry) or Modern Organic Chemistry or Organic Chemistry
Important Information
If you have not taken and completed 1 semester of 100-level general biology and at least 1 semester of 200-level organic chemistry, enrollment may be granted on an as-approved basis.

Instructors
Brian Kalet
Dr. Brian Kalet earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Massachusetts in 2002 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado in 2008. He then participated in postdoctoral research at the Animal Cancer Center at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital studying biomarkers of tumor growth, metastasis and chemoresistance. Dr. Kalet then accepted a position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology where he currently teaches upper division undergraduate biochemistry courses.
