CS 457 - Computer Networks and the Internet

Course Description

Introduction to fundamental concepts in the design and implementation of computer communication networks and their protocols. Principals of communications, local area networks, communication protocols, TCP/IP, and the Internet.


Software/Hardware Requirements

Access to electronic mail, ability to access the Web easily and frequently (a modern browser is recommended), ability to access the CS department computers remotely.


Prerequisite

CS 214 (Software Development) or CS 253 (Problem Solving); CS 370 (System Architecture and Software); STAT 301 (Introduction to Statistical Methods) or ECE 303/STAT 303 (Introduction to Communications Principles) or STAT 307/ERHS 307 (Introduction to Biostatistics) or STAT 311 (Statistics for Behavioral Sciences I) or STAT 315 (Statistics for Engineers and Scientists); Prerequisite courses must be passed with a C or better. Credit not allowed for both CS 457 and ECE 456.

Instructors

Indrajit Ray

Dr. Indrajit Ray is an Associate Professor with the Computer Science Department who joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 2001. Prior to that he was an Assistant Professor in Computer and Information Science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.


Dr. Ray received the Ph.D. Degree in Information Technology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA in 1997. His undergraduate and M.E. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering were earned from the Bengal Engineering College and the Jadavpur University in India.
