LEAP 200 - Advocacy in the Visual and Performing Arts (AUCC 3C)
- Overview: This course explores the importance of advocacy for the arts, including issues of censorship, public funding, arts education, and artists' advocacy through the arts.

- Course Objectives:
- Demonstrate good understanding of political institutions and their role in the arts.
- Demonstrate understanding of the perils of censorship at the international, national, state, and local levels, including impact on policy advocacy using the arts.
- Demonstrate understanding of the intersection of public policies with everyday life in the context of the arts and arts advocacy.
- Evaluate the role of the arts in public education, and in fostering civic engagement, political engagement, and the exercise of democracy, especially for advocacy purposes.
- Identify and assess the various roles played by visual and performing artists as engaged citizens in using the arts to affect society and as a medium for public discourse.
- Implement relevant strategies and rhetorical skills useful in advocacy activities through an understanding of policy cycles and government institutions.
- AUCC Requirements: This course meets the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) requirements for Social/Behavioral Sciences (Category 3C).
