Internal Medicine Residency Program

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at the OU-TU School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma, aims to recruit, retain, and develop a diverse group of resident physicians of the highest caliber who will be shaping the future of healthcare and improving the health of our community.

About Our Residency

The program works in partnership with the largest hospital systems in the area, including Hillcrest Medical Center, St. Francis Medical Center, and Ascension St. John Medical Center, in addition to participating in multiple clinics throughout Tulsa.

Program Description

The program provides a complete training experience in Internal Medicine, with a focus on creating a supportive, family-type atmosphere while maintaining a positive balance of work and wellness during IM training. The community-based, university-affiliated model equips internal medicine residents with the skills needed for all types of practice after residency.

Teaching and Learning

Residents develop their teaching skills as they work alongside OU SCM medical students and PA students in the inpatient and ambulatory settings under direct supervision of attending physicians. Teaching skills are taught formally as part of the academic curriculum, and senior residents have the opportunity to engage in supervisory roles for medical and physician assistant students at the Bedlam Evening Clinic, a bi-weekly free clinic run by OU SCM for the uninsured.

Clinical Setting

The Schusterman Clinic, which opened in 2007, provides patients with one central location that houses Internal Medicine, OB/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry, as well as in-house lab testing, radiology, and pharmacy services.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The University of Oklahoma, in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, age, religion, disability, political beliefs, or status as a veteran in any of its policies, practices, or procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: admissions, employment, financial aid, and educational services.
