Introduction to the Especialización en Estomatología en Atención Primaria

The Especialización en Estomatología en Atención Primaria, or Specialization in Stomatology in Primary Care, is a postgraduate program offered by the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza, a multidisciplinary academic entity of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. This program is designed for dentists working in public health institutions, educational institutions, and private practice, who are interested in primary care.

Program Overview

• The program began its activities in 1988, as a result of the coordinated efforts between the UNAM and the Secretaría de Salud, with the goal of addressing community needs through concrete actions in primary care.
• The study plan was approved by the H. Consejo Universitario on September 18, 1991.
• The program's planning was based on the Academic Project of the FES Zaragoza and currently responds to the Institutional Development Plan.
• The chapter on Study Plans and Programs for the 21st Century includes among its objectives:
  • Analyzing and exploring the creation of new professional and postgraduate study options, focused on the study, care, and research of the needs of large groups or population sectors, preferably with a multidisciplinary character.
  • Adjusting plans and programs according to certification and globalization impact criteria, and continuing the process of updating study plans.

Objective

The objective of the Especialización en Estomatología en Atención Primaria is to train specialists in Stomatology in Primary Care, capable of guiding and developing their activity within the framework of the primary health care strategy, to participate in solving the main stomatological health problems of the individual, family, and community.
